Convert & compress images — several at once

Drop a whole batch, pick JPG, PNG or WEBP, and set a quality level, a maximum dimension or an exact target in kilobytes. Every file is processed on your own device, with the saving shown per image.

Handle a whole folder at once

Select as many images as you like and convert them in a single pass. Each row shows the original size, the new size and how much was saved.

Hit a file size, not a guess

Type a limit in kilobytes and the tool searches for the highest quality that still fits underneath it, instead of leaving you to nudge a slider blindly.

Metadata removed by default

Because each image is redrawn from pixels, camera details and GPS coordinates stored in EXIF are dropped from the output.

Step by step

How to convert and compress images

  1. 1
    Add your files

Drag several images onto the box or click to select them. Mixed formats are fine, since JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, BMP and GIF all work.

  2. 2
    Choose the output format

JPG for photographs, PNG when you need lossless quality or transparency, WEBP for the best balance on a website.

  3. 3
Set quality or a target size

Move the quality slider, or switch on the exact size option and type a limit in kilobytes.

  4. 4
    Resize if needed

Cap the longest side, set exact dimensions, or scale everything by a percentage, which helps when the originals come straight from a camera.

  5. 5
    Convert and download

Press convert, review the saving on each file, then download them individually or all at once.

FAQ

Questions about converting and compressing

What is the difference between JPG, PNG and WEBP?

JPEG uses lossy compression and produces the smallest files for photographs. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which suits logos and screenshots but creates much larger files for photos. WebP supports both lossy and lossless modes and typically produces files around 25 to 30 percent smaller than JPEG at similar quality.

How does the exact size target work?

The tool performs a binary search across quality levels: it compresses, measures the result, and narrows the range until it finds the highest quality that still fits under your limit. Eight passes are usually enough to land close to the target.

Why does converting a PNG to JPG add a white background?

JPEG has no alpha channel, so transparent pixels must be filled with something. The default is white, but you can change that colour under Advanced.

What quality setting should I use?

Around 80 to 85 percent is the sweet spot for most photographs, since the result is visually almost identical to the original at a fraction of the size. Go higher for images with fine text or gradients, and lower when file size matters more than detail.

Does resizing help more than compressing?

Often yes. A photo straight from a phone can be 4000 pixels wide, while a website rarely displays more than 1920. Capping the longest side usually saves more than any quality adjustment, and it does so without introducing compression artefacts.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Each file is decoded, redrawn and re-encoded by your browser using the canvas element. Nothing is transmitted, which is why a batch of large files stays fast.

Is EXIF data removed?

Yes. Because the output is generated from raw pixels rather than copied from the source, EXIF fields such as camera model, timestamp and GPS coordinates do not survive the conversion.

How many files can I convert at once?

There is no hard limit, but everything runs on your device, so very large batches of high-resolution images will use noticeable memory. Fifty files at a time is comfortable on most computers.

Which conversions does this tool handle?

Convert PNG to JPG, HEIC to JPG, WEBP to JPG, JPG to WEBP, and every combination between JPG, PNG and WEBP, all from the same screen. Add as many files as you need and choose the output format once for the whole batch.

How does the exact size option work?

Switch on the target size option and set a limit such as 100 KB. The tool searches for the highest quality that still fits under that ceiling, and each file in the list shows its original size, its new size and the percentage saved.

Can I resize while converting?

Yes, in the same pass. Cap the longest side at 1920 pixels for web use, enter exact dimensions, or scale by a percentage. For a phone photo this often matters more than compression, since reducing the dimensions avoids the artefacts a heavy quality setting introduces.

What happens to my photo's metadata?

It is removed automatically. Files are processed locally through the browser canvas element rather than uploaded, and a side effect of that is that EXIF data, including camera model and GPS coordinates, does not survive the conversion.

What should I do after converting?

Continue with the photo editor for colour and exposure, the platform resizer for exact social dimensions, the one-click enhancer, or the text and logo studio to add branding before you publish.
